Quads and triplets...

Overnight a sheep lambed quads, all her lambs are really lively and feeding well.  Quadruplets are quite rare at around 1 in 400 sheep have quads.   There has also been a lot of triplets.  So we have been bottle feeding the extra lambs.  We use a powder mixed with warm water to make the milk up.

A few of the sheep as they are heavy with lamb and housed inside have prolapsed, due to them not having much exercise, a bulky diet and being so heavy in lamb.  To treat the sheep we have to clean the prolapse, replace it and place a harness on to prevent her from pushing it out again.  We also give her an injection of long acting antibiotics  When they start to give birth we need to remove the harness in time.DSCN9615
